Search the Archive

Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

112195 Translation - Russian

9/17/2025 2:15 PM I think this transcription gives the correct separation of names, but I'd like confirmation from a native speaker that it looks like the same family in my other two images. Avrum (son of Itsko grandson of Yukel), his wife Reyza, and several children. The husband of Khaya Sura (and father of the grandchildren I think) is not listed. Is there any indication of his name or what happened to him? Thank you. View the post with its 1 response

112158 Translation - Tombstone

9/17/2025 2:10 PM I believe this to be the gravestone of Fajge {Shif} Breiterman. She was the wife of Moszek Breiterman, mother of Irka Breiterman. All three died in the Shoah. View the post with its 1 response
112111 Translation - Russian

9/17/2025 2:10 PM Looking for a translation from Russian for this 1880 marriage record from Kalisz (Act 24). The participants were Szmul Nuchem Kroll and Roza Gumpricht.

My guess is that both were either in their late 'teens or 20s. Roza is believed to be the daughter of Natan Gumpricht. Szmul Nuchem Kroll's parents aren't certain.

Thanks for any and all help!
