Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

112155 Translation - Russian

9/14/2025 2:22 PM This is the transcribed information from the 1854 and 1865  Revision Lists for a family from Shpola (Ukraine).  I have three questions that I am hoping someone can help me answer as I cannot translate the text.

1. The father (Head of Household) is named Avrum in one and Avrum Itsko in the other.  I am fairly certain he has a brother named Itsko in Korsun.  Would this be unlikely given the name Avrum Itsko?

2. Avrum Bir and is son Yankel are described as "Non-relative" in 1854 and "Relative" in 1865.  Is there any further clarification in the image?  Are they related?

3. Gershun (son of Avrum Itsko in the 1865 List) has no age listed in the transcription. It seems that the image says he was 1 year old in 1861 and there is a note on the right side of the page about him.  Can someone please translate?

Thank you so much.

Greg

9/14/2025 2:21 PM I would really appreciate it if someone could take a look at the old-style German cursive writing in the photo. If it's too difficult to work with the whole thing, it would be great just to have an overview of what's written. Thank you! View the post with its 1 response

9/14/2025 2:21 PM Hello. I believe this is a birth record from my family tree. I'm hoping to confirm the names of the child and his parents and to learn the town names where his parents come from.

I am looking for a Moszek Ladowski born to Mordka Joska Ladowski and Risli, nee Sternshos or Sterenszyc.

Thank you very much for your help.

112131 Translation - Romanian

9/14/2025 2:19 PM This is page 1 out of 2 of my great-grandparents marriage certificate's copy I got from Vaslui District Archive. I'm looking for a translation as detailed as possible mostly out of hope it will help me learn about the family of my great-grandmother Feiga Schwartz, which according to the archived spelled her surname as Sfartz.

Here is what I do know about her and my great-grandfather Lupu Beral:

* Lupu grew up in Hoceni, his parents Shmria and Ronnie were merchants and Ronnie died around 1915.

* Feiga grew up in Leova Moldova. My family knows she had around 10 siblings and her parents were named Rebecca and Zvi, which I assume that when he was alive he was called Hirsch or Herscu.
