Search the Archive

Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

111372 Translation - Yiddish

7/6/2025 9:09 PM This is an image of Ida Garber's petition for naturalization. I seek a transliteration of her signature, which appears in two places on the document. I believe it says Ida Garbulsky but want to confirm as she is my great grandmother. If you could write out the letters, such as aleph yud dalet, that would be very helpful. Thanks. 111361 Translation - Polish

7/6/2025 9:06 PM Hi, I’d like a full translation of this document to English or French.
There is a note added few years after (1923) the birth (1919) that may be related to a civil wedding of my grand grandparents.
We are note sure about that my grand grandfather is the true genetic father, so these information may help to understand the history of my family.
Thanks a lot to whom could help me

Please and thank you!

7/6/2025 9:04 PM Please help with translation / identifying the columns.
The far right column is "who was born"
I think it's a daughter, Rose. Correct?

Next column is father & mother + social status.
I want to know: what are the words beneath the underline?
Is it the mother's name?

I'm searching through Odessa birth records and getting confused with the father & mother column. Especially the word that looks like "reeno " — what does that mean?

Many thanks in advance.

7/6/2025 9:03 PM This is part 1 (of 2 parts) of an extract from the birth records of Kutno in 1820.(Part 2 to follow, as it's on the next page of the register). It's the birth certificate of Jozef Eyzyk Lindeman, son of my ancestor Berek Lindeman and his second wife, Szyfre Lewkowicz. I am looking for the age of Berek Lindeman in 1820, when his son was born. thanks! View the post with its 1 response
