Movement for Progressive Judaism

(and Unaffiliated Progressive Congregations)

The Movement for Progressive Judaism (MPJ) came into effect on 1 January 2026, on the formal union of the Movement for Reform Judaism (MRJ) and Liberal Judaism (LJ). The two constituent movements had announced in April 2023 their intention to merge into a single movement and on 18 May 2025 members of both movements voted, at two parallel Extraordinary General Meetings, to unite into one movement for Progressive Judaism.

The Movement formed is the largest synagogal body in the United Kingdom and Ireland, measured by number of communities. It represents around 30% of synagogue-affiliated Jews.1.
