This is page 1 out of 2 of my great-grandparents marriage certificate's copy I got from Vaslui District Archive. I'm looking for a translation as detailed as possible mostly out of hope it will help me learn about the family of my great-grandmother Feiga Schwartz, which according to the archived spelled her surname as Sfartz.

Here is what I do know about her and my great-grandfather Lupu Beral:

* Lupu grew up in Hoceni, his parents Shmria and Ronnie were merchants and Ronnie died around 1915.

* Feiga grew up in Leova Moldova. My family knows she had around 10 siblings and her parents were named Rebecca and Zvi, which I assume that when he was alive he was called Hirsch or Herscu.

9/14/2025 4:46 PM Hello,
As is typical with these documents, there’s a lot of legal boilerplate text (they were married according to these laws, they were not closely related, etc.) that probably has nothing of use to you. Here is everything that pertains to your family:

No. 117

Marriage: 21 August 1922

Groom: Mr. Lupu BERAL, of age, unmarried, 29 years old, commercial office clerk, born in Hurdugi (Fălciu County [now in Vaslui County]), residing in Huși, Strada [street] Ștefan cel Mare no. 91

Groom’s Parents: Mr. Șmaer BERAL, trader, residing in Hoceni (Fălciu County [now in Vaslui County]); and Renei BERAL, deceased

Bride: Ms. Feiga ȘFARTZ, of age, unmarried, 28 years old, without profession, born and residing in Leova

Bride’s Parents: Haim Gherș and Rifca ȘFARTZ, [both] deceased

No prenuptial agreement.

Witnesses: Mr. Osias SAFER[?], 53 years old, laborer, residing in Huși, Strada Melchisedec no. 5, friend; and Mr. Șimon RAHBOH, 75 years old, trader, residing in Huși, Strada Ștefan cel Mare no. 91, friend; the first from the groom’s side and the second from the bride’s side

————————

Regarding the name spelling, it appears that all the individuals present were illiterate. Because Romanian records can use a variety of phonetic spellings, especially for Ashkenazi surnames such as SCHWARTZ that are not Romanian in origin, there is no way to know for sure of the family indeed used the spelling ȘFARTZ or not.

The family information you provided matches this record. Although Lupu was not born in Hoceni, according to the record, his father was residing there at the time of the marriage.

This information is from both of the pages you posted.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
