Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

6/18/2025 1:50 PM This is the Russian version of the name I'd like translated. I am also uploading the name from the same entry as written in Yiddish/Hebrew. Although I can read basic Russian, I can't make out the name in either version - I think it might be an unusual name (but one I have seen in other records from Tesiai. Can anyone help? 6/18/2025 1:49 PM Two photos of the same headstone, left from about 2018?, right from May 2025. On Chewra.com, they use the same 2018 photo for two (actually three) different records: one for Moshe Lejb with no death date; the other two are for a double headstone for Abraham haKohen (d 1718) and his wife Ester (d 1729). It seems to me that Moshe Lejb is more likely - wouldn't there be hands on the headstone at the top if it were the double haKohens? If someone can confirm for me whose headstone this is, I would appreciate it. Thank you. View the post with its 1 response

6/18/2025 1:49 PM This headstone appears in Chewra.com data on two different records, one for a Mordechai haLevy (d 1767), the other for Jicchak (Ajcik) no surname (d 1745). Can someone tell me who this belongs to? Thank you... View the post with its 2 responses

6/18/2025 1:49 PM This is the second image of the headstone of my great grandmother Jane Borris (née Fishman), who died 17 July 1912.
The picture is of a second smaller flat headstone that I think was added later, probably due to the weathering on the original headstone.
I would like a translation of as much of the inscription as possible.
She’s buried in Edmonton Federation Cemetery, Montagu Road, North London.
She lived in Dubno (Ukraine) until she emigrated to London with her family at the beginning of the twentieth century.
