Two photos of the same headstone, left from about 2018?, right from May 2025. On Chewra.com, they use the same 2018 photo for two (actually three) different records: one for Moshe Lejb with no death date; the other two are for a double headstone for Abraham haKohen (d 1718) and his wife Ester (d 1729). It seems to me that Moshe Lejb is more likely - wouldn't there be hands on the headstone at the top if it were the double haKohens? If someone can confirm for me whose headstone this is, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

On  Response
6/18/2025 5:05 PM It is a double stone.

The husband was Avraham (Abraham) son of Refael (reh-fah-ayl), Hebrew for Raphael. There is no mention of his being a Cohen. (To answer your question: while the priestly hands on a man's grave do indicate that he was a Cohen, the lack of that image does not mean that he was not a Cohen).

To emphasize: the term "haCohen" does not appear anywhere on this stone.

The wife was Esther daughter of Avraham "Segel". [This might have been the family name, or it might simply be the abbreviation that indicates that a man was a Levite. It might be both.] Segel/Siegel/Segal, etc. are family names that usually indicate Levites.

Please let me know if you'd like me to try to read the dates of death.
