6/18/2025 5:32 PM Here lies

our dear, modest, and righteous mother, Mrs.

TOBEH/TOBAH SHEYNDEL Rahmer

daughter of Reb Shlomo Ze'ev, may he rest in peace

She passed away at a satisfactory old age

on the 20th day of the month of Sivan 5714

May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

Some might read the first part of her name as Tova, which is an actual name and means 'the good one'. However, this stone has an unusual feature: despite the lack of vowels or other indications, here the letter 'bet' has a dot, to assure that her name would be read with a B sound and not a V sound. (Her secular name is further proof). Taube is from German and means dove.

Shayndel is a Yiddish name that means the pretty one.

I've written the family name as Rahmer, as that would be the pronunciation based on the text.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Shlomo is Hebrew for Solomon. Ze'ev [zeh-ayv or zeh-ehv] is Hebrew for wolf. Some men with Ze'ev as part of their name have a secular name of Wolf, Wolfgang, or similar (some even have something like William).
