Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

6/14/2026 4:23 PM From Skanoteka.

Akta 2 is my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather’s 1848 death record from Rypin, Płock, Poland. I would like it translated in full (or at least everything that isn’t the standard wording of a death record).

Names that I would expect to see in the text are:
- the deceased: Lewin GROTSZTEYN/GROSZTEJN.
- his son: Rubin GROTSZTEYN.

Thanks so much! Hopefully the handwriting isn’t too hard to read.

6/14/2026 4:17 PM Hello,
I just uploaded Iciek's birth, this seems to be his death record.

Claude AI thinks this record states:
Record No. 4 — Death, 1865
Andrzejewo

This happened in the town of Andrzejewo on the 2nd/14th of May, in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, at four o'clock in the afternoon. Appeared Herszek Jankielowicz Chałupowicz, aged twenty-seven years, father of the deceased, and Hevsrzek Pasternак, aged [~40], and Abram Chałupowicz, aged thirty-nine years, all residing in Andrzejewo, who declared that today at four o'clock in the morning in Andrzejewo there died Iciek, aged one and a half years, son of the appearing Herszka Jankielowicza Chałupowicz and Hany z Hersznów małżonków Chałupowicz. This act was read to the appearing father and witnesses, who upon being asked about the death of Iciek Jankielowicza Chałupowicza, signed — as the appearing father and witnesses are unable to write.

Is that accurate?

Thank you
