Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

114601 Translation - Hebrew

5/31/2026 4:47 PM I am trying to learn the Bride's name from this Ketuba. I think it may be (something) Malka daughter of Yosef. It is possible her name is Yiddish.

ALso, what is the meaning of the Mem (?) following her father's name?

Lastly, I can read the Groom's name (Yosef Samuel son of Abraham Moshe), but what is the word preceding his name?

Thank you for your help. Barb Snider

114602 Translation - Tombstone

5/31/2026 4:47 PM This headstone is for Solomon Siegelaub and his wife Molly. Molly was born Malka Weissler in Kolomyya. I would like to know what the Hebrew inscriptions are for both of them - it has been suggested to me that his gives his name as Shlomo Zissa son of Chaim Leib, and hers says Malka daughter of Itamar. His data works for me, Itamar is not a name I know of; from other records I know her father's name as Somer/Sumer. Any help very much appreciated. (This is not my photo - it was from an online source.) View the post with its 2 responses

5/31/2026 4:46 PM I have a series of photos of gravestones I took when I traveled to Kopaihorod in the early 1990s. Please excuse the amateur quality of them. On some I am aware that only part of the inscription is visible. Please translate the Hebrew and or Russian as appropriate. Many thanks.
