My grandfathers name was mitelberg (although he subsequently Anglicized it) he died in 1920 in UK

his fathers name was Moshe .. same as the occupant of this grave .. who died in 1918

me wonders whether this might be a brother ??

Starting with the fourth line:

Mordechai Tzvi son of Moshe
Mittleberg
died 8 Adar 5678
May his soul be bound up in the bond of life (acronym)

The third line reads:

He got pleasure from the efforts of his hands [enjoyed his work]

Mordechai [MORE-deh-chigh, with the ch as in Chanukah or Bach] is a Biblical name, from the Book of Esther.

Tzvi means deer. The Yiddish word for deer is Hirsh. Because of this, some men with Hirsh as part of their religious name have a secular name that sort-of sounds like Hirsh, such as Harry, Herbert, Harold, etc.

The 8th of Adar, 5678, corresponds to February 19th/20th, 1918. (Whenever I see a date of around that time, I can’t help wondering whether the person might have died of the Spanish flu).
