Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

11/28/2021 10:46 AM I would like to know what is the town of this passenger's last known residence or birthplace. The image is copied from the passenger list arriving from Hamburg on Jan 7, 1907, last residence column. On various sites it is interpreted as either Markuszow or Magnuszew. She was headed to St Louis. We are confused by what appears to be a final "o" at the end of the town. Her husband arrived a year earlier and I believe the last residence is Warzawa but will upload that also. Thank you. View the post, there are no responses

11/28/2021 10:46 AM I would like to know the name of the town of last residence or birthplace of David Toitelbaum (Tettlebaum). I have attached an image of the name of the place from the passenger list column of last residence or birthplace. He arrived in 1905. It appears to be either Warsaw or Warsawa but wondered if it could be some other town. Thank you. View the post with its 1 response

11/28/2021 10:44 AM No idea the context of this letter or who its written by. I assume the first of two pages but it isn’t labeled. This was either written by great-grandmother’s cousin, Rukhl Leah Levitan in Israel or my great grandmother, Ida Flatow in Brooklyn. I will greatly appreciate anyone who can translate this. Thank you in advance! View the post with its 2 responses
