Reb TZVI son of Reb Yosef, who passed away with a good name [reputation]

In the 28th year of his life on the eve of the Holy Sabbath

and the eve of Rosh Chodesh Shvat 5648

May his soul be bound up in the bond of life.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

'Rosh Chodesh' is the beginning of a new month. The "eve" of Rosh Chodesh is the last day of the previous month. The month of Shvat is preceded by the month of Tevet. The exact Hebrew date of death was the 29th day of the month of Tevet of the year 5648. This date began at sunset on January 12th, 1888, and ended at sunset on the 13th.
