Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

6/25/2025 2:00 PM I would be grateful for a translation/transcription of the names and other information on this postcard, which I can only partially read.

I have also uploaded the photo on the other side of the card as ViewMate file #111255.

If possible, I would like to determine which person in the photo is Rachela Brostow.

Higher-resolution files of both sides of the postcard available upon request. (Too large to upload to ViewMate.)

6/25/2025 1:56 PM Need to translate the Hebrew side of this Russian marriage record From Ivankov, particularly the far right column with the names of the bride and groom. The Russian side is so sloppy and difficult to read that I'm hoping to get some help by comparing it to the Hebrew side. Unfortunately, my ability to read handwritten Hebrew (even after 45 years of research) is pretty pathetic. These are my great-grandparents. View the post with its 1 response

6/25/2025 1:55 PM Hello from Toronto. The attached file is a birth registry from Galicia. Record #34 (the bottom one) records the birth of my paternal grandmother, Itta RUBENFELD. I am struggling to make sense of the information that is written about Itta's mother, father and grandparents. Could one of you helpful and scholarly ViewMates translate the two chunks of text under "Mendel Rubenfeld" and "Eidla Rubenfield"? In particular, the names and town of the Eidla's parents isn't clear. Finally, could you confirm that "Kasstecher" (the name of the witness) is in fact a last name and not an occupation name? I thank you in advance for your kind help. View the post with its 1 response

6/25/2025 1:54 PM Hello friendly View Mates! This application for an identity card was for my paternal great-grandmother Aidle (Eidel) RUBENFELD nee KLINGER. I'm having trouble figuring out what town she was born in. Also, what her then address was. Could one of you take a stab at reading the handwriting and let me know what your best guess is?

Thank you very much.
