This letter was sent from Zhmerinka, Ukraine from a woman named Lisa Bitko, who was a cousin of my grandmother, who had emigrated from Zhmerinka to the US in 1916. The letter was sent directly to someone in Brooklyn, who I assume was also a relative. I suspect the letters tells what happened to Lisa and other family members during and after the war. |

Indexed with the following information: Marriage of Sura KACENELENBOGEN (age 19, born in Porozowo to Jakow Mejer and Chana Ruchla) to Dawid KON (age 26, born in Ciechanow to Gersz and Blima nee KOCHAN).
I'm particularly interested in other information about Sura Kacenelenbogen, such as her mother's maiden name, where her parents resided at the time of her marriage, any family members who were witnesses, if there was a dowry, what type of work she did, etc.
Sura is the mother of a treasured older relative. Thank you!

Are the fathers' names for both Elia and Sora, from both the Russian and Hebrew sides, available? Are the towns of registration listed for Elia and Sora, or their fathers? For Akt 28 only, is anything wrong?
It took place in the town of Sokołów on 5 (17) Sept 1875, at 10am. We declare in the presence of witnesses: Itzek Hertz, 61 years of age, and Srul Czapka, 49 years of age, both synagogue servants residing in Sokołów; yesterday at 7pm, a religious marriage union was concluded between Shlyama Yankel, of two names, Monka, a bachelor, son of Berko & Feiga, the spouses Monko, born in the town of Sokołów on the 18 Aug. 1855, residing here with his parents; and Riska Buzhna, 22, dtr of the late Berko and Freida, the spouses Buzhny, residing with her mother in the town of Sokołów.
This marriage was preceded by 3 banns published in the local synagogue on Sabbath days: 2, 9 16 (14, 21, 28) of Aug. 1875. The religious rite of marriage was performed by the Acting Town Rabbi, Yudko Beiman. The newlyweds declared that no prenup was concluded between them.
