Search the Archive

Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

1143 Do you recognize?

9/10/2003 Sharing this 1923 Belarus photo of Esfera Podoksik (l.) and "Pesheh" Pauline
Frakt (later Ganezer) as very young women (note the bows in their hair.). Esfera
didn't emigrate, Pauline did. They were cousins, part of the extended Wolfson-Lifshitz
family in the Glusk, Koslovichi, Bobruisk area. If you recognize them or are related,
I would love to hear from you.

1122 Translation - Tombstone

9/10/2003 Can anyone translate the inscription on the tombstone of m gr-gr-grandfather from Lodz in Poland? I'm paricularly interested in the several lines of text before his name, and the few words after NF for "niftar". They appear to say "Ben P.A." before giving the date of his death. Also, does the Z"L mean this man or his father was a rabbi or a particularly distinguished member of the community? View the post with its 2 responses

9/10/2003 Here is one example of a share of the Jewish Colonial Trust which I found at the Jewish Museum in Athens, Greece. I have adjusted the image as best as possible for viewing purposes on the internet. I do have a better, more detailed version available for examination if anybody wants to see it. Feel free to contact me with any questions View the post, there are no responses
