Can anyone translate the inscription on the tombstone of m gr-gr-grandfather from Lodz in Poland? I'm paricularly interested in the several lines of text before his name, and the few words after NF for "niftar". They appear to say "Ben P.A." before giving the date of his death. Also, does the Z"L mean this man or his father was a rabbi or a particularly distinguished member of the community?

9/26/2010 3:44 AM Dear Saul,

GersHon Goldberg was a Rabbi, because his first name Gerson is preceeded by "our master and teacher, ou Rav Rabbi" (abbreviated). Son of the late Reb (= Mister) Zeev.
He died at the age of 81 years, the 16 Tevet 675 = Saturday 2 January 1915.

If you send me a better picture, I'll be able to give you a complete translation.

All the best.

The five letters on the bottom lighter part of the stone row are the initials of a verse "May his soul be bound in the bundle of life"
A direct quote from the Book of the Prophet Samuel / Shmuel A, 25: 29, that is traditionally engraved on Jewish tombstones.
