Search the Archive

Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

11/21/2021 12:13 PM I am wondering if both the father and son in this birth record are named Abram Jakubowicz, and if so, does the document indicate that the father was deceased when the child was born (and if that is the case, does it say when he died)? Also does it identify the mother’s maiden name? View the post with its 1 response

11/21/2021 12:12 PM This is page 108, the last page of the index of Records of the Beth Din of Brody 1808-1817. I understand the Index to the records is by FIRST name and not by family name. I wonder if any of these names appear in the index:
ASHER ZELIG Reisfeld (Rabbi) born around 1795
CHASKEL ABRAHAM Reisfeld (Rabbi Asher's son) born on 8 November 1815
CHAIE Mosczisker (Chaskel Abraham's wife) born around 1814
HERSCH NAPHTALI Löwe/ Lewin - born around 1784
NAPHTOLA Löw / Lewin - born around 1811

11/21/2021 12:09 PM This is a two-page spread from a register of births for Stanisławów for 1885. Stanisławów was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire at this time.

The record I'm interested in is located at the bottom of the right-hand page (p.527); item 483.

It is a birth record for Mojżesz Fischler, son of Filip and Malke (Tepper).
