DATABASES

The principal JCR-UK Database is the ALL-UK Database, which contains more than 390,000 records relating to Jews in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Gibraltar.

Burials Databases hosted by JCR-UK

In addition, the following separate databases are hosted by JCR-UK:

●  Bradford Jewish Cemeteries Database (a project funded by the UK Heritage Lottery Fund) - records of burials, plus photographs of the headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of each grave in:

  Bradford Synagogue (Reform) Cemetery - over 200 interments, 1877 - May 2017;

  Bradford Hebrew Congregation (Orthodox) Cemetery - over 400 interments, 1912 - May 2017.

●  Bristol Orthodox Jewish Cemeteries Database - records of over 950 burials, plus photographs of the extant headstones and copies of the burial certificates, where available, in the Bristol Hebrew Congregation Cemeteries at Barton Road, St Phillips and Ridgeway, Eastville (including re-internments from the Great Gardens, Rose Street Cemetery), from 1762 to 2003.

●  Doncaster Jewish Cemetery Database - records of burials, plus photographs of the headstones, in the Doncaster Jewish Cemetery, Rose Hill (approximately 70 interments, 1930-2006)

●  Harrogate - Stonefall Jewish Cemetery Database - records of burials, plus photographs of the headstones, in the Harrogate Hebrew Congregation's Stonefall Jewish Cemetery (approximately 180 interments or re-interments from 1964 to 2014) and 6 Jewish servicemen buried in the Stonefall Military Cemetery.

●  Leeds - BHH Cemetery Database - records of approximately 2,400 burials, plus photographs of over 2,400 headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave, in the Beth Hamedrash Hagadol (BHH) Cemetery, Leeds (which also includes a number of other congregations), Gelderd Road, Gildersome, from 1955 to 28 February 2019.

●  Leeds - Hill Top Cemeteries Database - records of nearly 3,200 burials, plus photographs of over 3,050 headstones, in the Leeds Hill Top Cemeteries, generally in use from 1875 to 1970 (but with some later burials).

 Leeds - New Farnley Cemeteries Database - records of more than 8,800 burials, plus photographs of over 7,750 headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave, in the Leeds New Farnley Cemeteries, from 1896 to 28 February 2019.

 Leeds - Sinai (Reform) Synagogue Cemetery Database - records of approximately 360 burials, plus photographs of 250 headstones, in the Leeds Sinai (Reform) Synagogue section of the Harehills Cemetery, Leeds, from the early 1950s to June 2014.

●  Leeds - UHC Cemetery Database - records of nearly 7,000 burials, plus photographs of almost 5,200 headstones, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of the grave, in the United Hebrew Congregation (UHC) Cemetery, Leeds (which also includes a number of other congregations), Gelderd Road, Gildersome, from 1840 to 28 February 2019.

●  London - Edmonton Federation Cemetery Records - burial records of the Federation of Synagogues' cemetery at Edmonton, London N18 (over 36,800 records, from the opening of the cemetery in 1890 until May 2018), made available to the public by the Federation, through JGSGB and JCR-UK.

●  London - Rainham Federation Cemetery Records - burial records of the Federation of Synagogues' cemetery at Rainham, Essex (over 25,800 records, from the opening of the cemetery in 1938 until May 2018), made available to the public by the Federation, through JGSGB and JCR-UK.

●  Sunderland Jewish Cemeteries Database - records of nearly 1,500 burials, including over 1,260 photographs of headstones and graves, with GPS coordinates and Google satellite image showing the location of each grave, in all three Jewish sections of Sunderland's Bishopwearmouth Cemetery (1856 to May 2019).

●  Swansea Jewish Cemeteries Database - burial records of the Swansea Hebrew Congregation's two cemeteries, the only Jewish cemeteries in Swansea, including GPS coordinates for each individual grave (accurate to about one metre) together with a button which, when clicked, brings up a Google satellite image of the cemetery showing the location of the grave. The database covers burials to December 2017 at the following cemeteries:

  Old Cemetery, Townhill, generally in use from 1768 until mid-1970s - nearly 950 records, with 735 headstone photographs;

  Oystermouth Cemetery, opened 1975 - nearly 200 records, with 175 headstone photographs.

Burial Databases affiliated to JCR-UK

The following databases are affiliated to JCR-UK:

● The Database of the Glasgow Hebrew Burial Society (which manages the Riddrie, Sandymount and Glenduffhill Jewish Cemeteries), now part of Scottish Jewish Cemeteries, is affiliated to JCR-UK. This latter database includes burials at all cemeteries in Scotland..

●  Leicester - Gilroes Jewish Cemetery Database - The Jewish Gilroes website (a project funded by the UK Heritage Lottery Fund) is affiliated to JCR-UK. The database contains records of approximately 820 burials, plus photographs of all extant headstones, in Gilroes Jewish Cemetery of the Orthodox Leicester Hebrew Congregation, from 1902 to present.

Congregation Birth & Death Registers

●  Bristol Hebrew Congregation Birth & Death Register (1829-1893) - Records of all entries in the Bristol Hebrew Congregation Birth and Death Register from 1829 to 1893, including, in each case, a scanned image of the corresponding page of the Register.

Deaths & Burials, including Tombstone Inscriptions and Lists of Persons Buried

●  Jewish Civilian Deaths during World War II - Names and details extracted primarily from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's (CWGC's) Register of Civilian War Dead, the selection has been made on the basis of name, together with some additional sources. Compiled by Harold Pollins.

●  Douglas (Isle of Man) Borough Cemetery, Jewish Section - Tombstone inscriptions (listed alphabetically), with ancillary information of 73 burials (1940 to 2016) in the Jewish section of the Douglas Borough Cemetery in the Isle of Man (plus two burials in Knockaloe, 1916 and 1917) in browsable form, compiled by Harold Pollins. These records (currently 1940 to 2005 only - 67 records) are also included in the ALL-UK Database.

●  Exeter Old Jewish Cemetery - Tombstone inscriptions (1807 to 1958), in most instances with images, in the Old Jewish Cemetery in Exeter, mostly compiled by Michael Adler (a section of Rabbi Dr. Bernard Susser's "Jewish Tombstone Inscriptions in S. W. England - Studies in Anglo-Jewish History No. 3"). Available on-line by JCR-UK as part of the Exeter Synagogue Archive.

●  Exeter - Exwick Cemetery, Jewish Section - Layout Plan of the Jewish Section of the Exwick Cemetery (Exeter), together with images of all tombstones from opening of cemetery (1992) to May 2016.

●  London - Cheshunt Jewish Cemetery (Adath Yisrael) - Records of the Adath Yisrael Burial Society (UOHC) listing (in alphabetical order) those interred in the Cheshunt Cemetery (Adath Yisrael Section), showing the name of the deceased, date of death and grave location. (On the website of JGSGB, a partner in JCR-UK.)

●  London - Enfield Jewish Cemetery - Surnames A - L; Surnames M - Z - Records of the Adath Yisrael Burial Society (UOHC) listing (in alphabetical order) those interred in the Enfield Adath Yisrael Cemetery. The lists show the name of the deceased, date of death and grave location. (On the website of JGSGB, a partner in JCR-UK.)

●  Falmouth Jewish Cemetery - Tombstone inscriptions (approximately 1734 to 1913) in the Jewish Cemetery in Falmouth, transcribed by Rabbi Dr. Bernard Susser (a section of Rabbi Susser's "Jewish Tombstone Inscriptions in S. W. England - Studies in Anglo-Jewish History No. 3"). Available on-line by JCR-UK as  part of the Susser Archive.

●  Paignton Cemetery, Jewish Section - A layout of the Jewish Section of the Paignton Cemetery, Torbay, showing the position of each tombstone and the name of the person interred.

●  Penzance Jewish Cemetery - Tombstone inscriptions (1848 to 1964) in the Jewish Cemetery in Penzance, transcribed by Rabbi Dr. Bernard Susser (a section of Rabbi Susser's "Jewish Tombstone Inscriptions in S. ●  Plymouth Hoe Old Jewish Cemetery - Tombstone inscriptions (approximately 1763 to 1867) in the Old Jewish Cemetery on Plymouth Hoe, edited by Rabbi Dr. Bernard Susser. Available on-line by JCR-UK as part of the Susser Archive.

 

Census List

●  Manchester 1871 Census Jewish Surnames - List (in alphabetical order) of surname, taken from the UK Census of 1 April 1871, of those in the Manchester area thought to be Jewish. Circumcision (or Milah) Registers (All of the following were transcribed by Rabbi Dr. Bernard Susser and are available on-line by JCR-UK as part of the Susser Archive.))

●  Register of Asher Asher (1861-1865) - The Circumcision Register of Asher Asher records circumcisions, primarily in London, from 1861 to 1864.

●  Register of Joseph Joseph (1784-1834) - The Circumcision Register of Joseph Joseph of Plymouth records circumcisions, primarily on members of his own family and close friends, from 1784 to 1834.

●  Register of Myer Solomon (1782-1839) - The Circumcision Register of Myer Solomon of the Western Synagogue (previously of the New Synagogue) records circumcisions, primarily in London, from 1782 to 1839.

●  Register from Edinburgh (1831-1838) - This Circumcision Register from Edinburgh, Scotland records circumcisions from 1731 to 1838.

●  Grimsby Hebrew Congregation - Marriage Records - Detailed list of Grimsby Hebrew Congregation marriages from 1875 to 1921 (109 records).

●  Bristol Hebrew Congregation - Membership Lists - Lists of Members of the Bristol Hebrew Congregation who made donations for the years 1910, 1911, 1912, 1937, 1947, 1950, 1953, 1955 and 1959.

●  London - Bayswater Synagogue - Original Seatholders - List of the names and addresses of the Original Seatholders of the Bayswater Synagogue (founded 1863).

●  London - Hendon Synagogue - 1939 Seatholders - List of the names and addresses of the Seatholders (including Lady Members) of the Hendon Synagogue, issued by the Synagogue in March 1939 (including names of Ministers, Officers, Board of Management, Representatives and Local Jewish Organisations).

●  London - Society of Chanting Psalms and Visiting the Sick - Subscribers - List (in alphabetical order) of the subscribers to the Society of Chanting Psalms and Visiting the Sick, associated with the Princelet Street Synagogue in London's East End.
