Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

9/5/2021 2:08 PM Can you tell me what kind of document this is? I've never seen one like it. I'm unable to make anything out, and am particularly interested in the Abraham Klein entry and whether it relates to my relative of the same name. View the post with its 2 responses

9/5/2021 2:08 PM This is, I believe, the marriage record of my relative Samuel Klein. I believe the entries that say Tokay relate to the place of their residence but perhaps it relates to place of birth? I am thinking it is a synagogue record, and would love to get a translation of the headers and title.
Thank you very much for your help,
Shana Millstein

95131 Translation - Yiddish

9/5/2021 2:06 PM The image is a screen shot from the Latvian Archives via the raduraksti site.

The image has been translated and is linked to with a non-working link from Jewishgen. The translation shows the marriage of my great grandparents, Chaim Moshe Reichman to Sheina Sprintza Toltz in 1875. It is the 2nd entry on the supplied image.

The brides maiden name is shown as RINMSKI but it should be TOLTZ. Can someone please verify this translation (either from the Russian or the Yiddish). The groom's father is shown as Hirsh. Can this be verified.

Thanks very much

9/5/2021 2:05 PM I would most like to know:

--the meaning of the word atop the list of names in the "Namen" column.

--what is written for lines 1 through 10 under "Gewerbe"

If possible I would also like to know:

--the meaning of the column heading that seems to read "Abfall und dessen ursachen" and if possible what is written in this column and extending to the page margin on lines 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9.

--the notes at the bottom of the page beneath #10 and the name of person's name on line 10 which looks like "Marim Litatonis".

Many thanks for any help you can provide!
