9/5/2021 3:04 PM Here lies SHLOMO son of Reb Yechiel the Cohen Caplan

He passed away 17 Kislev 5711. May his soul be bound up in the bond of life.

=======================================================

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

The deceased and his father were Cohanim [plural of Cohen], members of the priestly tribe that traces back, son to father, to Aaron, Moses' brother.
9/6/2021 2:03 AM Hello Ruth,

The translation is correct. However, there seems be an engraving error in the spelling of the Hebrew month of Kislev. The second letter should be a "Samech", but instead a "Mem" was used. Since the two Hebrew letters are very similar to each other, a stonecutter who was not familiar with the Hebrew language could have easily made this mistake.

There is no question that the month is Kislev, as it could not be anything else, but my eye just caught the apparent mistake. These types of errors did, and still do happen on occasion....Jo
