Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

10/10/2021 12:36 PM I would be grateful if you could translate the names of this Hekier family, translate the parents names for the father and mother only, birth dates for each person, and the information in the last two columns, I am looking for possible information as to what happened to them, or what is their status or if deceased, the cause and / or date of death.
Thank you so much for your help, Olivier

95556 Translation - Yiddish

10/10/2021 12:36 PM The image is a screen shot from the Latvian Archives via the raduraksti site.

The image has been translated and is linked to with a non-working link from Jewishgen. The translation shows the marriage of my great grandparents, Chaim Moshe Reichman to Sheina Sprintza Toltz in 1875. It is the 1st entry on the supplied image.

The brides maiden name is shown as RINMSKI but it should be TOLTZ. Can someone please verify this translation (either from the Russian or the Yiddish). The groom's father is shown as Hirsh. Can this be verified. Also The grooms father is shown as Khaim-Itzik, but thought it should be Abraham Isaac.

A clearer image of the Russian is shown in Viewmate ID : 95561 and a clearer image of the Yiddish is shown in Viewmate ID : 95562

Thanks very much

95519 Translation - Russian

10/10/2021 12:35 PM This is from a document called "issuance of aid to poor Jews in Vyazivka with family lists. I believe that line 9 is an entry for my GG grandfather, Hersh (Gershko) Kobrinsky. I'd like to know:
1) What does it say at the top of the page, before the list of names?
2) What does it say about my GG grandfather on line 9?
Thanks in advance for your help!

10/10/2021 12:35 PM This is from a document called "issuance of aid to poor Jews in Vyazivka with family lists. I believe that line 9 at the top is an entry for my GG grandfather, Hersh (Gershko) Kobrinsky. The lower part of the photo depicts the headings for each column.
I'd like to know:
1) Translation of the column headings
2) Specifically what does it say about Hersh Kobrinsky under each column?
NOTE: This is a separate/different page from the other one I uploaded from the same document.
Thanks in advance for your help!

95521 Translation - Yiddish

10/10/2021 12:35 PM This is the first page of a letter written in Yiddish by I think my great-grandmother Ida Flatow to her potential cousin Rukhl Leah Levitan. I was told that the letter was addressed to Rukhl Leah Levitan but not the actual content of the letter. My great-grandmother wrote the letter while living in what was at the time British Palestine while I think her cousin was living in Johannesburg, South Africa at the time. Anyways, I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can translate this letter for me. Thank you in advance. View the post with its 3 responses
95522 Interpretation

10/10/2021 12:35 PM This is the second page of a manifest of alien passengers arriving in NYC in 1912. On line 11, the passenger (Hyman Jacobovitz) is joining his brother in law who lives in NYC at East 92 St.

Although the columns in line 11 have been completed and I can read the details about the brother in law, there is some writing above, in a different shade of ink which I cannot make out. I hope that someone can help decipher it.

95514 Translation - Tombstone

10/10/2021 12:34 PM Emma Marx and her sisters Minnie May and Gertrude are buried in this cemetery. I can see Minni's stone, but wondered if any of the others (in Hebrew) are her siblings. They all died during an epidemic in Pennsylvania.
Thank you.
