Search the Archive

Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

10/27/2021 12:36 PM I'm seeking a translation of the headstone for Fanny Friedman. She was the sister of my grandfather Louis Reische, and his siblings Edward and Joseph Reische, and the daughter of Miriam and Simon Reische. She's buried in Montefiore Cemetery. She was the mother of three daughters, Yetta (Henrietta), Theresa and Beatrice and the widow of Samuel Friedman. Please respond privately.

10/27/2021 12:35 PM The death certificate (act 23, upper left hand corner) lists a number of sons (six?) of Lewek Szmulowicz and their ages. I can read most but not all of them. Can you help, please? Thank you.
P. S. Please confirm that at the time of his death Lewek left no inheritance.

10/27/2021 12:34 PM The record on the right should be the marriage record of my GG grandparents Chaya Chapper and Lewek Orzechowski. They were married in Radomsko in 1846. I was always under the impression that Chaya Chapper's husband's name was Lewek Birman. I found other records listing Chaya Chapper/Hopper and Lewek Birman together. I would like to know if there is a Birman name somewhere in the record. Also the name of Chaya and Lewek's parents. Thank you. View the post with its 3 responses
