I'm specifically interested in the household of Iosel Movshovich Chibeigen (head of household, age 64) and his sons Foyvush/Fayvish (31) and Volf (15). In column 7 ("notes on arrival/departure"), there appears to be a note dated 29 January 1882 that seems to reference a transfer ordered by a Kovno provincial office. Could someone please translate this note in full, including any place name mentioned as the community the family was transferred from or to? I'm trying to determine where this family was registered/living immediately before this 1883 list. |

I have a copy of 'Sefer Biala-Podlaska', where some of my ancestors came from. It is full of hand-written notes that, from my rudimentary knowledge of Hebrew letters, appear to be addressed to my grandfather Noah Mowszowski (please correct me if I'm wrong!). It would be very helpful to have a translation and especially if there's any information about who wrote the notes and where they were at the time. I will post another note separately. Thank you. |

This text was on the back of a postcard with picture of my grandmother, Miriam (Marjem)Zeldman (Seldmann) Blank (Elblink) on the front. She emigrated from Kamenets Podolsky in Moldova (Russia) on the SS Rotterdam, arriving in the US around 1898 at age 24 and settling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am requesting a translation of the postcard text to English. The handwriting appears to be Cyrillic. I don't know if it is Yiddish or Russian. Thank you for your help. |

This document a was among my grandfather's papers, and I'd appreciate the translation of the Yiddish as much as possible, recognizing the difficulty of Yiddish written in cursive Hebrew letters. Claude AI has identified the document as a standard Soviet-era parcel receipt/confirmation form. The Russian at the top says "By order No. 56030, I have received 1 parcel in full. I report that ...," and then the handwritten Yiddish, followed at the bottom by "Signature."

Death registration for Gita INDYK.
I would really appreciate a full transcription of all genealogical data. I can see that Gita was a widow. Does it say who her husband was? I cannot read her parents' names if they are given but see that there are names in addition to the informants/witnesses. I cannot decipher date of death.

Handwritten letter in Hebrew (Sephardi semi-cursive), sent from Egypt to the rabbinical court of Safed. From the Safed Jewish Community collection at the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People: CAHJP IL-Sa-563, shelfmark Sfat 7-112. Catalogued as 1925.
It opens by naming the three dayanim of Safed: Ishmael Cohen, Yeshua Waish and Yeshua Palagi, and is catalogued as concerning a widow. As far as I can read, it pleads repeatedly that they act "lifnim mishurat hadin" in a matter of a sheluhut (emissary mission), and asks mercy for the man's righteous wife.
A full transcription and translation would be very welcome. Especially:
1. Who wrote and signed the letter?
2. Who is the man whose case is pleaded, and who is the widow?
3. Does the surname MALUL / MELLOUL / MALLOUL appear anywhere? I research Rabbi Moshe Haim Malul, rabbi of Tanta in Egypt, who died in either 1925 or 1928, and whose wife came from the Palagi family of Safed.
