Attached is the last page of a 1934 letter sent by my great-grandfather Abram (Abrasha) Riskin, from Haifa, to my great-grandmother Bronya Levin, who was apparently staying at a Safed hotel to recover from an illness. The page notes in Hebrew the settlement of Nahalal, to which I believe Abram submitted an application to be employed as a local physician. I would appreciate your assistance in the translation of the letter. Thank you.

JewishGen's "Search All Records" - Jewish Records Indexing - Poland offers this as the birth of Jadwiga Fajans in 1898 in Warsaw. I'm pretty sure most of it is in Russian, but I can't tell for sure.
I'm trying not to be greedy, so I'm not asking for a translation of the whole thing, just the genealogically relevant parts.
(If it's who I think it is, she was the sister of the first mother-in-law of my stepmother-in-law.) |

Page from the burial register of the Jewish Community of Iasi, November 1891, photographed for me by the community secretary. The image shows the four entries dated 15 November 1891 (order numbers 961-964, right-hand column).
I am looking for GOLDA, wife of MOISE SIN MENDEL. She died in Iasi on 13 November 1891 (civil death record no. 1229, age given as 42, tuberculosis) and, according to the cemetery records, was buried on 15 November 1891 in Division III, Section V.
Could you please help me with:
1) which of these four rows is Golda, wife of Moise;
2) a transcription/translation of that row - above all the name of her FATHER, if the register gives it (this is the one fact my research is missing);
3) what the numeric columns record - there appear to be two different number series, and one row on the same page is annotated "Copou".
The handwriting is Hebrew/Yiddish cursive and I cannot read it reliably. Any partial reading is welcome. Thank you very much. |

This is one image of part of my grandparents' ketuba. I'm also uploading another part; hopefully between the two we can learn more. (Sorry I didn't have the actual ketuba to scan a full image.). I'd like to learn whatever I can: Hebrew dates, Hebrew names, the location of the chuppa as close as possible (or just "Philadelphia"?); what was the dowry? I think the names of witnesses is out of view.

This birth record M170 of Abram Yosif Kletskiy was recorded in both Russian and Hebrew. I'm interested in getting a more meaningful translation of the Hebrew side, the part outlined by my gray rectangle, in particular the description of the status of the father, Yisrael Shlomo, son of Yitzchak Kletski.
The translation/transcription posted of the Russian said that the father was a town dweller (meshchanin) from the Troki District "from Zizmariai Society." I think that meant that he had a connection to the town of Zhezmir (Zhizhmory), but I'm not sure what the connection might be. The Hebrew seems to say he's an ezrach (citizen/meshchanin), but I can't figure out the rest. Is he "from here?" (Kovno), but originally from Zhezmir or maybe recognized as a community or congregation member in Zhezmir?

This is the birth record in Hebrew (see my red rectangle) and Russian of Hene Keyle Kletski, born July 14 1881, 29 Tammuz, in Kovno/Kaunas City, registered as F140 (female 140) on the ledger page. I can translate the Russian and have a transcription, but would appreciate a fuller translation of the HEBREW.
It looks like her parents were Yisrael Shlome, son of Yitzchak Kletski, and Chaya Basya, daughter of Yitzchak. I'm particularly interested in the description of the father's status. Was he a "town dweller" (meshchanin in Russian)? He apparently had some connection to Vilna city or Vilna gubernia, can you decipher the Hebrew to give a fuller description?

This records the birth of Berel son of Dovid son of Leib Margolis. I am having trouble reading the wife's name. I believe her first name is Gitel but I cannot decipher what it says after Gitel.
If anyone can figure this out I appreciate hearing from you. This Berel was my great grandmother's brother, so Dovid and Gitel are my great great grandparents. |
