Search the Archive

Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

5/4/2025 5:01 PM This is a 1916 Vienna Meldezettel, or Population Register, for my great-grandmother Mirl Kelman nee Fisch. I already have a sense of what most of it says, but I would really appreciate it if someone could translate the 8th row, or "Fruhere Wohnung," which should list her former residence. It should give the name of a place somewhere in modern-day Czechia. Thank you in advance for your help! View the post with its 1 response

5/4/2025 4:58 PM Hello, I would like the names of all the ancestors of both bride and groom, if possible. As well as their occupations, dates, and places of birth and/or marriage.
Thank you very much.

110653 Translation - Tombstone

5/4/2025 4:58 PM I am interested in what the Hebrew says on Jane Minsky's headstone. I assume it begins "Here lies ... daughter of Herschel" (as her father was Harry Minsky). I am not sure what Jane's full name is in Hebrew and hoping the translation will include this information. Thank you! View the post with its 1 response
