I would be most grateful for a translation please. I believe there is also some lettering at the foot of the stone and not sure what this means.

Greatly appreciate any help if possible.

3/20/2024 2:44 PM Hello Cindy,

The translations are as follows:

Top part of stone: "Here lies Toba, daughter of Yosef Shmuel"

The 5 Hebrew letters at the very base of stone:
"May her soul be bound up in the bonds of everlasting life."

Jo
3/20/2024 3:06 PM Here is interred

Mrs. TOBA/TOVA daughter of Reb Yosef Shimon

[at the bottom, abbreviation for:] May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

========================================================
Toba is a Yiddish name, and means dove. (There is a slight chance that the name is actually Tova, meaning 'the good one', although that name is usually spelled with the letter hay at the end, and not with an alef as it appears on the stone.)

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Her father had a double Hebrew name. Yosef is Hebrew for Joseph. Shimon is Hebrew for Simon. [The first helper read this name as Shmuel, but it is Shimon.]

Of course, his secular name might have been completely different from either Joseph or Simon.
3/20/2024 11:40 PM After the black letters in English there is further Hebrew text in faint gray.

Here is buried
Meir Moshe ben Yaakov

3/23/2024 7:44 PM Hello Cindy,

Indeed, her father's Hebrew name is Yosef Shimon. So sorry for the error.....Jo
3/24/2024 1:59 PM The previous helper has very good eyes! Indeed, there is further Hebrew text. However, it reads:

Here lies

Meir Moshe son of Yaakov (not Moshe Meir ...)

Meir (pronounced may-eer) is a Hebrew name that means "one who gives light". Moshe is Moses (some men with the name Moshe have Morris as their secular name). Yaakov is Jacob.
