an honest and dear man

YAAKOV LAYB son of Reb Layzer

Abbit, may peace be upon him

He passed away 13 Adar of the year 5701

May his soul be bound up in the bond of life.

====================================================
'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Layzer is a Yiddish version of the Hebrew name Eliezer.

There is an interesting image at the top of the stone, with four Hebrew letters surrounding the handshake. I have not encountered this image before. It may be the symbol of a Jewish society or organization. If you are not sure, either, I'd suggest possibly posting that image to the Discussion Group of jewishgen; someone might recognize it.
