Browse the VM archive to view user-generated images of Jewish historical subjects, documents, culture and places, up close. A new response feature now allows you to add your response to those older, often unanswered archived images. Please respond with relevant information when you can. Here's how. Sort the first column (VM ID) by clicking on the column title for the oldest or the latest images. Select an image. Next click "Add Response".

Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.
You will be able to view responses online if available. Items will open in a new browser window.

7/22/2026 5:25 PM This is a middle page of a letter written by the relative of a cousin. (I have not yet identified the other pages that go with it).

I would greatly appreciate a translation.

I apologize for the poor quality of the scan.

There may be a few sprinklings of Hebrew. Please just ignore those.

Thank you in advance.

7/19/2026 4:05 PM Hello, I just found this revision list for my Great Grandmother's family. It has been indexed, but would like to know if the original document has more information. To see the English translation in Jewish gen, see SHIFMAN, Jankel, son of Moshko Ukraine Revision Lists, Group 2. Town listed is Singayevka, Berdichev. Thank you! 7/19/2026 4:05 PM I located a 2nd revision list for my great grandmother Cipa Shifman (see recent post of 1897 list). This list is from 1882. I'm looking for additional information on the original document. To see the English translation, you can find it under Ukraine Revision list Group 2: Shefman, Yankel son of Moshko. I think one of the children listed is that is Tsina in English, might be my Cipa.

Are the children's ages on the original document? Thank you, Shelly Levin crzprncess@aol.com

7/19/2026 4:05 PM This is a birth certificate for Carl Stermann, son of Samuel Ignatz Stermann and Anna (nee Frater).

I can see that Carl was born on March 25 1899, and that his birth was legitimate. His father, Samuel Ignatz Stermann, was born in Vienna on September 8 1861. His mother, Anna Frater, was born in Vienna on January 8 1872.

I’d appreciate as much of a translation as possible, especially Carl's parents' marriage date/location/address, birth location/address, name/date of birth of previous/penultimate child of Carl's parents, witnesses' names/addresses, and the open-ended, free-response text on the left-hand side of the certificate.

Also, if any of my limited basic understanding re: basic name/date information is incorrect, please let me know what should be corrected to be most accurate.

Thank you very much!

114955 Translation - Hebrew

7/19/2026 4:04 PM I understand this is the note written in the family bible when my g.g.grandfather Aaron Segil passed away Dec 16 1899. I would appreciate help translating the Hebrew (or maybe it's Yiddish?), to identify whether it reveals any information *beyond* the English that is also on the page. In particular, I haven't been able to find Aaron's parent's names, so would like to know if there is any indication of that in the document.

This is image 1 of 2 that I will upload with this question, as I have two similar pages.

Thank you so much!
