This database contains records for 396 forced laborers who died in Dorosic, Ukraine, in 1943.

Dorosic, near Kiev in the Ukraine, was a clearing station for units of Jewish forced labourers returning from the front to Hungary.  In the spring of 1943 there was an outbreak of typhus and a large number of those affected were quarantined in a large barn.  On 29 April, Hungarian soldiers set fire to the barn, shooting those who tried to escape the flames.  Hundreds of men died as a result of the fire, the shootings, or from typhus in this infamous place.

As a result of the tireless efforts of Dr. Anna Zsigmond, daughter of one of the survivors, a memorial to the victims was dedicated on the site of the camp on 28 September 2005.

This database includes 396 records of forced laborers from Dorosic.  The fields for this database are as follows:

  • Surname
  • Given name
  • Rank
  • Date of birth
  • Motherís given name
  • Motherís maiden name
  • Place of residence

The information contained in this database was indexed from original research done by Dr. Anna Zsigmond.  Dr. Zsigmond, together with her brother Gavriel Bar Shaked, a researcher at Yad Vashem, was also responsible for compiling the database.  The database in its present form was submitted by Gila Miriam Chait, whose uncle Ferenc Fernbach was one of the victims.
