This database contains records for 396 forced laborers who died in Dorosic, Ukraine, in 1943.

Background

Dorosic, near Kiev in the Ukraine, was a clearing station for units of Jewish forced labourers returning from the front to Hungary.  In the spring of 1943 there was an outbreak of typhus and a large number of those affected were quarantined in a large barn.  On 29 April, Hungarian soldiers set fire to the barn, shooting those who tried to escape the flames.  Hundreds of men died as a result of the fire, the shootings, or from typhus in this infamous place.

As a result of the tireless efforts of Dr. Anna Zsigmond, daughter of one of the survivors, a memorial to the victims was dedicated on the site of the camp on 28 September 2005.
