12/19/2024 7:51 AM top two letters are an acronym for
Here rests or Here is buried
A God fearing man from his youth
saw happiness in his community and his children
he is the man Yitzhak Jacob
passed away on the 15th day (of the Jewish month of) Nisan in the 5645 (year since the world was created)
the bottom five letters are an acronym of a verse "May his soul be bound in the bundle of life,"
a direct quote from the Book of the Prophet Samuel / Shmuel A, 25: 29, that is traditionally engraved on Jewish tombstones.
A few thoughts:
Yitzchak is a biblical name he was our Forefather the son of Avraham.
The 15th of Nisan is the first day of Pesach-Passover.
The 15th of Nisan, 5645 began on Monday eveing sunset March 31, 1885 and ended on Tuesday night.
The eve of the 15th is of course the night we conduct the Seder, with Matzah, maror wine etc.
What should have been a happy day celebrating Jewish freedom, in the Jacob family became a day of sadness and morning.
