8/6/2025 3:11 PM The first few lines are lines of praise. Please let me know if you need a full translation.

Here are the relevant details.

The name of the deceased was Malka, which means queen.

Her father was David Yehuda (a double name).

Her husband's name was Yoel Dorfan.

She passed away on a Friday, the eve of the holy Sabbath, on the 28th day of the month of Tishri of the year 5706.

This date began at sunset on October 4th and ended at sunset on October 5th, 1945.

-------------------------------------------------------

Here she found her rest,

Our dear and beloved mother,

the respected one. By the women in the tents

shall she be blessed: Mrs. MALKA, daughter of Reb

David Yehuda, wife of Reb Yoel

Dorfan, who went to her world

on the sixth day [of the Jewish week], the eve of the Holy Sabbath, 28

days into the month of Tishri of the year 5706

May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

-------------------------------------------------------

I’ve previously briefly explained about the names and the date of death.

Here are a few additional comments.

‘Reb’ is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Yehuda is Hebrew for Judah; this is name of one of the twelve sons of Jacob and the twelve tribes of Israel. The symbol of the tribe of Judah was a lion. For this reason, some men with Yehuda as part of their name have a secular name related to lion, such as Leo, Leon, Leonard, etc.

Yoel is a Biblical name, Hebrew for Joel. Yoel was one of the minor prophets.

It is relatively unusual for the name of a woman’s husband to be included on her gravestone; when this occurs, it normally indicates that he was a prominent member of the Jewish community.

The “sixth day” of a Jewish week begins at sunset on Thursday and ends at sunset on Friday.

The phrase “by the women in the tents will she be blessed” is a direct quote from the Book of Judges (5:24), taken from a song of praise about a valiant woman, Yael.
