8/6/2025 2:58 PM This is a man's grave.

His name was Yonah. His father's name was Tzvi, which means deer. (His father's secular name MIGHT have been something like Hersh). There is some faded text in front of the name Tzvi, which might be a title, or might be the first part of his name (if he had a double name).

Here, the date of death is even more complicate, as the year is not entirely clear. It was anywhere between 5590 (1830) and 5599 (1839). It looks most like 5591. However, the stone says that Yonah died on a "Tuesday" (the third day of the Jewish week), either the 2nd or the 20th of Sivan. I looked at the calendar for each of the ten possible years, and there was no Tuesday in any of these years that matched either the second or the twentieth day of Sivan. Perhaps Yonah died on a Tuesday after sunset, in which case there might be a few matches. However, according to the Jewish calendar, Tuesday after sunset in the fourth day of the Jewish week, not the third.
I can only conclude that there is an error somewhere in the date, but I do not know where.
