Please translate the headings. Many thanks. I need to continue to review these census records.

7/16/2025 9:04 PM I know I've done these before, but it's faster to just do them again than to try to find my previous translations (especially given that I don't even remember which _site_ to look on).

(For reference, here's a random page using the bilingual Hungarian-German version of the form: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G99K-W9XJ?lang=en&i=2.)

4. Year of birth.
5. Religion.
6. Family status.
7. Profession or
8. mode of employment.
9. Birthplace.
10. Residency: local | foreign.
11. Presence: less than | over one month continuously.
12. Absence: less than | over one month continuously.
13. For locals: can he/she read | write and read?
14. Notes.

The ones that presented the greatest difficulty for enumerators were columns 7 and 8; interpretations varied greatly about what the heck was actually expected in them. Here's the detailed text of the headings:

that is, office, earnings, or trade;
for example, for clerks: state, county, community, or whose clerk?
The industry and earnings branch are to be clearly marked;
if a woman or person over age 14 has a separate income, that is to be entered;
if someone has no definite craft, it is to be entered whether he/she lives from savings or charity;
this column may only be blank for those under age 14, as long as they are not employed at a farm, factory, or trade.

or condition of work or service;
in this column, it should be entered whether this person pursues the indicated occupation independently as an entrepreneur/contractor or as an assistant? whether he/she works as owner, profit-renter, by yearly or monthly wage, or daily wage, at a farm, factory, etc.? Journeyman, apprentice at some craft/trade? Owner, assistant, accountant, apprentice at some business/store? in service in a household? etc.

(No, those didn't help anyone figure it out back then, either.)
