Thank you for your help in translating Hebrew on the headstone of Sara Mantel Seiler (1870–1942).

Sara was was born in Manayyuv, Ternopil, Ukraine; emigrated to Duluth in 1921; reportedly passed on 20 Aug 1942, and is buried in Tifereth Israel Cemetery, Duluth, Minnesota.

The image of Sara's headstone came from FindAGrave.

Sara's father was reportedly named Yacov; her mother, Rachel. She had two brothers in Minnesota and Wisconsin: Max Shapiro and Reuben Mantell.

Mrs. Sarah daughter of Yakov Tzvi
Died 8 Elul 5702
May her soul be bound up in the bond of life (acronym)

Our dear mother, a woman

of modesty, and righteous,

Mrs. SARAH daughter of

Reb Yaakov Tzvi

She passed away 8 Elul 5702

May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

========================================
‘Reb’ is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Yaakov is Hebrew for Jacob.

Tzvi is Hebrew for deer. The Yiddish word for deer is Hirsh. Because of this, some men with Tzvi as part of their Hebrew name have a secular name that sounds similar to Hirsh, such as Harry, Harold, Herbert, etc.

The 8th of Elul, 5702, began at sunset on August 20th, 1942, and ended at sunset on the 21st.
