7/6/2025 10:10 PM Hello,
The Ancestry index does leave out quite a bit of information, including on the witnesses (listed on the second page of the document) and on a later child. It also misspells the name of the bride as “Chaja” when it is actually “Chaje.” I’ve decided to just list all the useful information below for convenience.

Also, “recte Überführer” refers to the groom’s legal surname as opposed to that which he used. This requires some explanation: at the time, European Jews commonly did not enter into civil marriage before the births of their children (a religious or “ritual” marriage was not in this case recognized legally). Were a child’s parents not legally married at the time of his or her birth, the child would legally take the maiden name of the mother. However, at the same time, the child might themselves use the surname of their father. In the case of the groom, according to the document he is the son of Liebe Überführer, with no father listed, suggesting the situation explained above. The likely explanation is that the groom’s father’s surname was Araten, such that the groom used this name; but at the same time, because he was not legally linked to the name Araten, his surname was still “recte” meaning “correctly” or “legally” Überführer.

Bride: Chaje Gitel Sonnenberg, at home, Austrian citizen, identified by birth certificate, Jewish religion, born on 6 November 1888 in Ulanow in Galicia, residing in Berlin, Grenadierstraße 8; daughter of the deceased merchant Salman Sonnenberg, last residing in Berlin, and of his wife Hentsze (Hene) née Stück, residing in Berlin

Witnesses:

(1) Cäcilie Sonnenberg née Rosenblum, married bookbinder, identified by family register, 27 years old, residing in Berlin, Neue Schönhauserstraße 7

(2) Jakob Scharf, merchant, identified by passport, 41 years old, residing in Berlin, Keibelstraße 3

[later note]: a daughter born [to these parents] in 1927, record No. 1620 [the number “9” is listed below this, which I do not understand].
7/7/2025 2:49 AM I think the number "9" in the later remarks represents the number of the civil registry office, like this marriage entry is from "Berlin IX" as well.
