This photo appears on chewra.com, probably taken about 2018 or so. On our recent trip there in May 2025, we photographed the entire cemetery, and did not see this headstone. While it is on chewra, it seems to be an orphaned record from a change in numbering, there is no epitaph transcription, and all they say is this is Gabriel who died 19 Oct 1809.

The photo doesn't match any other old photo on chewra (although they do have some records without photos), nor does the snippet of information match anything known.

If this is legible enough, I would like to know what the full epitaph says, perhaps that will allow me to match it with some other data. Thank you, Liza

This the link to the chewra record, but the website may not be up if you try it. https://chewra.com/keshetnew/kweb/tomb_detail.aspx?tomb=12266&kid=0

GAVRIEL son of Meir, may he [the father] rest in peace

who passed away on the fifth day [of the Jewish week] 9

Marcheshvan of the year 5570

May his soul be bound up in the bond of life.
-----------------------------------------------
Gavriel [gahv-REE-ayl] is Gabriel.

Meir [may-err] is Hebrew and means one who brings light.

Days on the Jewish calendar go from sunset to sunset, so the "fifth day" of the week begins at sunset on Wednesday and ends at sunset on Thursday.

The 9th of Marcheshvan [also known by the shorter name of Cheshvan] corresponds to October 18/19 1809.
