Hello ViewMate volunteer,
This is a picture of my grandfather's birth record. He was Chaim Adam, and his parents were Izrael Adam and Estera Schochet. There is quite a lot of commentary written on the document and I would like a translation of information contained there. It may not be entirely possible as the writing is small and tight... But I appreciate anything you can glean from what is legible. Many thanks!
Kind regards to all,
Judith Adam

6/22/2025 6:21 PM Hello,

The annotations added later essentially note the subsequent marriage of the parents and the child’s legitimization. I will translate roughly left-to-right:

––––

No. 1396

Birth: in Lwów in 1884

Name of Child: Chaim

Sex: Male

Legitimacy: Illegitimate. [Written below] Legitimized; see note.

[Note below on the first page]: Legitimized through the legal marriage of parents, later performed in Lwów on 11 October 1899, according to marriage record for 1899. p. 240, entry 240. [note added] 19 April 1909 [signature of official]

Father: Izrael Adam, who admits to paternity

Mother: Estera Schochet

[Information on mohel, midwife, etc. included on separate document]

Notes [last column]: [Legal information] Recorded per the rescript of the Imperial-Royal Governorship [c. k. Namiestnictwo] on 18 December 1893, no. 91184 (notification of the Lwów Magistrate from 27 December 1893, no. 83699/[18]93) record no. 38, 1894. [signature of official]

Record no. 188/[1]909. A protocol was recorded concerning the parents in which the mother of the child, Ester Schochet, requests the recording of Izrael Adam as the father of the child; Izrael Adam declares paternity; and both parents request the legitimization of the child. 19 April 1909 [signature of official]
