Two photos of the same headstone in the Hotzenplotz old Jewish cemetery. From cemetery records we know this belongs to Baruch Bendet son of Salomon (who was the son of David from Sidlov). chewra.com has a rather long epitaph at https://chewra.com/keshetnew/kweb/tomb_detail.aspx?tomb=12202&kid=0 even though they get the names a bit mixed up on their description tab for the grave.

My question is - the design at the top makes it look (to me) like it should be a double grave. Can someone tell me if it really is just one person? It's the only one in the cemetery with this particular design. Thank you, Liza

6/22/2025 2:57 PM It is the grave of one person.

I see the name Baruch and I see the name Shlomo (Solomon), although they are separated by many lines of text. Both he and his father were apparently rabbis.

The double-arch at the top looks (to me) like a representation of the tops of the Ten Commandment tablets. The text across the tops reads "Here is interred the great rabbi."

(I tried the link in your comments but was not successful).

Do you know his year of death? I am trying to decipher the date, but it seems to imply the 1680's?? (March or April).
6/22/2025 4:14 PM The year of death is 5473; apologies for my previous misreading.
