Here lies RAYZEL RIVKA daughter of Reb Yaakov

She passed away 9 Av 5722.

Rose had a double name. Rayzel is Yiddish for 'little rose'. Rivka is Hebrew for Rebecca.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Yaakov is Hebrew for Jacob.

The 9th of Av, 5722, began at sunset on August 8th, 1962, and ended at sunset on the 9th. The secular date of death on the stone is the 8th, which would indicate that she passed away between sunset and midnight of that date.

The 9th of Av is a noteworthy date on the Hebrew calendar, as many tragedies struck the Jewish people on that date over the centuries, including the destruction of both Temples in Jerusalem.
