This is page 1 of a 2-page letter written by the relative of a cousin. (The rest of the letter will be in my next post).

PLEASE NOTE: As opposed to my requests of last week (for transcriptions rather than translations), I am now requesting (only) TRANSLATIONS.

Thank you. Sorry for the plot twist.

I apologize for the poor quality of the scan.

There may be a few sprinklings of Hebrew. Feel free to ignore them.

Thank you in advance.

Dear Julia, [HEBREW]

I was very happy to get your lovely letter and especially the picture, many thanks! Hopefully you’ve gotten all your things in the meantime. Write me if you’re missing anything. There’s no good news to report from school. But the news about you is very interesting. Imagine, two days ago I was at Netty’s in the afternoon when the police suddenly appeared, looking for Julia Wechslerová. Of course your departure notice was perfectly in order so there wasn’t any trouble. At 9:45 p.m. my papa [HEBREW] asked me if Netty is still here or was deported, since afterwards there was a big official raid. Then with my mother I dissuaded Netty that she should come stay with us.[*] Since Mindl Stein is also without papers she came along as well. Both of them spent the night with us. It was really quite interesting. Pinki slept in the kitchen since we don’t have a made, so we had enough space. There’s a new craze in our class, everyone is learning some handicraft or other. We go sewing every afternoon, other people learn something else. So funny. Everyone wants to leave the country. Now I really expect a _long_ letter from you. I’m looking forward to it.
Must close now, love from
Lea
[HEBREW]

[* This sentence does not make sense to me but it seems to be what is written (“Daraufhin halte ich mit meiner Mutter Netty ab, dass sie zu uns kommen soll”). -RR]

6/18/2025 6:58 PM PS. I omitted the word “downstairs”: two days ago I was downstairs at Netty’s in the afternoon. . . . (So apparently Netty lives in the same building.)
6/20/2025 3:33 AM *“Daraufhin HOLTE ich mit meiner Mutter Netty ab, dass sie zu uns kommen soll”

Then with my mother I picked Netty up, that she should come to us.
