My dears, I left Zurich with over a half-hour delay. Almost empty till Basle – also pleasant company – but then – cold (Hungarian) cars – and the customs border. Everything with Roska’s compliments. You can pack, but for borders it’s a real hassle. Wouldn’t you know he had me open the heaviest suitcase, examined everything – but everything – thoroughly, asked over and over about foodstuffs. It’s lucky there wasn’t anything in that suitcase. All the shoes were in disarray. Even though I took out the coat and smaller items I could not get the case shut again – and then the straps! All the way to Belfort several people were working on it. And more and more people got on the train – what fun – but now it’s all over except for a few ruined stockings. I was expected by [Herrg?] (not till 9.25) – the apartment is very nice – have to start finding my way around – but I’m sure everything will be good. Everything happened so fast in Winterthur – we didn’t even really have a proper good-bye. More soon. Love and kisses, Your mother.

5/11/2025 12:53 AM Correction, I've reinterpreted the third sentence:

"My compliments to Roska – you’re good at packing – but for borders it’s a real hassle."
