This should be page 2 of the marriage record for Leopold Lucas and Dorothea Janower. Would like to learn the names of any witnesses, etc. that might be listed.

And also what information is included in the record that was apparently added at a later date at the bottom of the page. I believe the Nazi government gave Dorothea the name of Sara? I have heard about the practice but have never seen actual documentation in a form like this.

Appreciate any assistance.

The witnesses were:

1. the merchant Loebel (Leopold) Janower, age 59, living in Breslau, Nikoliastrasse 7

2. the mercant Karl Muenchheimer [I'm not 100% sure of the first letter of his last name), age 74, living in Breslau, Antonierstrasse [this is my best reading] 22/23

You are correct as to your interpretation of the section on the bottom (which appears on many such documents). Yes, the Nazis forced all Jews who did not already have an obviously "Jewish" first name to take on the middle name of Israel (for men) and Sara (for women).

It basically says that "the married woman indicated opposite (in other words, on the first page) "has taken on the first name of Sara". [Any official documents from then on would have listed her as Dorothea Sara.] This name change took place on December 30th, 1938, and was verified on February 22nd, 1939.
