Cemetery Description:

Jewish Cemetery Velicná, Velicná, SLOVAKIA. 51 burials total.

The Jewish cemetery in Velicna (formerly Nagyfalu) is located about 600 meters northwest of the center of the village in the location "Above the Jewish cemetery". It is almost rectangular, with an area of 1503 m². It lies to the right of the dirt road in a slightly sloping terrain. In the past it was simply fenced, from the eastern part were parts of a stone wall. After the reconstruction in 2010, it is enclosed around the entire perimeter by a high panel fence, with one entrance from the dirt road. It is not accessible to the public. After the Holocaust, nobody took care of the cemetery, it was run down and overgrown with trees. Tombstones made of high-quality materials were stolen and many were damaged. Only a few tombstones in the upper and left parts of the cemetery remain. Author of the text is J.Feiler https://zilina-gallery.sk/picture.php?/27071/category/2072
