Cemetery Description: From the donor of the only remaining headstone: The village is satul Remetea Oașului (Koszegremete in Hungarian), comuna Orașul Nou (Avasujvaros in Hungarian), județul Satu Mare (Szatmar megye in Hungarian). I gave you the Hungarian names too, because this territory was under Hungarian administration in the past, including the time of deportation. I find it so tragic that these people were deported by the Hungarians and mass murdered by the Germans. My grandfathers sister could remember the day, as she was about 9 years old. The mother of a little Jewish child put him naked on the cold stone as they were packing. My great grandmother told her not to do so, because the child will get ill. The response of her mother was that she can leave the child because anyway he will going to die. The conclusion of my grandfathers sister was that they already new what is waiting for them. She was so marked by this memory, that she recounted it in tears, Even after so many years were past. I think people didn’t talked much about the Jews' tragedy because they were envious of them. The motive I think is that in the 50s, Jews could escape communism by migrating to Israel, but others couldn’t. I hope that their memory will not totally disappear.
