I'm trying to get through a brick wall by looking at the fathers listed on tombstones to try and find individuals potentially related from Motol, Belarus. I am interested in both Mendel and his wife Sarah. Thanks in advance.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

There is a discrepancy between Sarah's Hebrew and secular dates of death. The 13th of Sivan of the year 5703 began at sunset on June 15th, 1943, and ended at sunset on the 16th.

If the secular date, June 20th, 1943, is correct, then the corresponding Hebrew dates would be the 17th of 18th of Sivan, depending upon whether she died before or after sunset.

Her father's name, Simcha, means joy. He was a Levite, descended from Levi, one of the 12 sons of Jacob. Levite is a designation that is passed from father to son, and men who are Levites still received recognition during synagogue services today.

Mendel's father was Yitzchak. This is Hebrew for Isaac.

Mendel passed away during the month of "Adar I". During a Jewish leap year, the twelfth month, Adar, is replaced by two months, Adar I and Adar II.

The 16th of Adar I, 5706, began at sunset on February 16th, 1906, and ended at sunset on the 17th. Since the secular date on the stone is the 16th, this narrows down his time of death to between sunset and midnight on that day.
