'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Sarah's father had the double name Ze'ev Volf. These are Hebrew and Yiddish, respectively, for "wolf".

The 13th of Sivan of the year 5704 began at sunset on June 3rd, 1944, and ended at sunset on the 4th.

The stone says that Pinchas died on the “1st day of Rosh Chodesh”. This type of notation is normally used only when there are two days of “Rosh Chodesh”. "Rosh Chodesh" translates to "the head of the month"; it is also known as the “New Moon”); it refers to the beginning of a new Hebrew month. Rosh Chodesh can be a one-day or two-day event, depending upon whether the previous month had 29 or 30 days. In this case, the previous month (Tamuz) had only 29 days. Therefore, Rosh Chodesh was a one-day event, and the date of death should more correctly have been called, simply, "Rosh Chodesh" of Menachem Av, which was the first day of that month (this month is also called by the shorter name of Av). The first day of Menachem Av of the year 5702 began at sunset on July 14th, 1942, and ended at sunset on the 15th.
