'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

The 7th day of the month of Tebeth [more commonly known as Tevet] of the year 5698 began at sunset on December 10th, 1937, and ended at sunset on the 11th.

(By the way, this year the Hebrew date of the 7th of Tevet actually occurred yesterday, December 11th. It is a coincidence that the Hebrew and secular dates were the same as when he died. This happens on average every 19 years).
