'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

He and his father trace their lineage back, son to father, to Levi, one of the 12 sons of Jacob. Levites had special functions in the Temples of old and still receive recognition during synagogue services today.

The 2nd of Elul of 5673 began at sunset on September 3rd, 1913, and ended at sunset on the 4th.
