a modest and pleasant woman. All

of the honor of a princess is internal.

She was crowned with every proper characteristic.

She died the 2nd day of Chol Hamoed Sukkot

of the year 5688. May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

The sentence which I have translated as "All of the honor of a princess is internal" comes from Psalms 45:14. I have not seen this on a gravestone before, but it would seem to refer to her modesty or proper behavior.

It is relatively uncommon for a husband's name to be mentioned; this usually indicates that he was a respected and important member of the community.

Sukkot is an holiday which last eight days [in the Diaspora]. Its first two and last two days are the more significant, while the four intermediate days are slightly less so; these days are called "Chol Hamoed". The second day of Chol Hamoed is thus the fourth day of Sukkot. The exact Hebrew date is the 18th day of the month of Tishri. The 18th of Tishri of the year 5688 began at sunset on October 13th, 1927, and ended at sunset on the 14th.
