LIFE SKETCH

David Sloan was born to Leib and Toba in Cherkassy in the year 1882 (then part of the Russian Empire). According to family members, his original name was Yankel Yankelewitz (Yankel is a diminutive of Jacob corresponding to his Jewish name of Jacob David). David married Ida Feldman who was also from Cherkassy.

David died on January 8, 1952 and is buried in Montreal. At the time, he was survived by his wife and children as well as 7 grandchildren. An eighth grandchild, a son, was born in 1955 to John and Jeannette Sloan. The child was named after David in accordance with Jewish tradition.
